Sunday brings another windy day on the farm...and some bad news, unfortunately another one of hand reared calves died overnight. Sometimes despite best intentions, being well fed, watered and sheltered they still succumb to the bad weather. Hopefully our remaining 25 calves will make it through until the warmer spring weather comes!
Meanwhile DP is busy out in the shed already, trying to finish our second large rabbit 'shed/hutch'. His initial idea 3 months ago of getting a couple of Flemish Giant rabbits has rapidly expanded and we now have a grand total of 15 rabbits!! :-) Hence the need for more rabbit homes. We have Gwen & Morgana, our 2 original Flemish Giant does, Thumper our first buck (who we mated with Gwen and the result is 5 healthy 6 week old baby rabbits). Then there is Willow and Whitey, 2 more does (still too young to mate just yet), and their boyfriend to be Blacky, a buck of roughly the same age. Willow and Blacky are Flemish Giants, while Whitey is a New Zealand White.
The most recent addition are our 4 Californian rabbits, 2 does and 2 bucks, currently the older doe and buck (who we mated around a week or so ago) have been named "mum" and "dad" by mister 3 year old!! The younger doe is named 'cutie' and the younger buck is yet to be named....
They are all beautiful rabbits and I'll have to upload some photos of them. We will soon be advertising the Flemish Giant baby rabbits for sale, as we are hoping to sell the offspring as pets. They are very cute, soft, and cuddly!
So hopefully we get the next lot of rabbit homes built soon, as potentially in another 20 or so days 'mum and dad' may well have their kits!! :-)
